Finally, we’re ready to start telling you who will be playing Horse Show 2016. We want to spread these announcements out so we can tell you a little bit about each band while we do it. As with all Radon shows, you can expect an eclectic lineup.
First up we’re really excited to bring in Keyoung, spoken word artist from Columbus OH. A favorite at Cornerstone and AudioFeed, Keyoung is working on a new album and we think the best way to describe what he does is to just watch the following video.
Also we’re excited to have Trouper come hang with us. From Mansfield, OH, Trouper describes their sound as Alternative Electropop Rock. They killed it last year at AudioFeed and we’re excited to bring to Springfield.
The Horse Show, just like most Radon shows, is a balanced mix of local artists and folks from out of town. So first up representing the Springfield area is The Locals. These indie rock guys are definitely becoming a pretty regular band to see on Radon lineups, but that’s just because they’re that good.
Also from Springfield is singer-songwriter Arlin Peebles of Studio Show fame. We’re excited to have him back once again for another Radon show.
And last up for this announcement is duo Bonnie and Lance. They’ve been playing our open mics and it just makes sense to have them around, especially as Bonnie is one of the mentors at Refuge Ranch. It’s great including artists from the Ranch itself in the show!
That’s all for now. Expect more announcements in the coming weeks! Look for the Horse Show facebook event here.
We just had a really great Open Mic and are continuing our plans the Horse Show on June 18. But today we want to talk about our next Radon Lounge show on May 7.
We’re really excited to bring The Young Eyes, from Greenville, IL, a new band featuring members of Brian Lee & His Orchestra. You might remember us squeeing like little school girls in the past over Brian Lee, so you can have no doubt we’re excited about this new band.
Also on the show are The Locals, a Springfield band who have definitely become a common name to see popping up on Radon shows. They started on the scene by winning Black Sheep’s battle of the bands and last year won the Illinois Time’s pick for best underage band. They’re definitely just as rad as ever.
Stereo Static, also of Springfield, are back from last November’s open mic. They just finished recording an EP and even have a tour under their belt. We’re excited to see where this band goes from here.
This Saturday we’re excited to be hosting another super great show at the Radon Lounge.
Our friends Von Strantz are back. There have been some lineup change since the last time they were here. Von Strantz is now a 2 piece, both Jess and Kelsey are accomplished multi-instrumentalists bringing that great indie folk we know and love about this band. They have been working hard in the past year, releasing 3 EPs in a series which make up their new album “Narratives”. You can check out and buy their EPs and the new album on their bandcamp site. You can also listen here:
Otis The Destroyer is on tour from Austin, TX. Otis has been making an impact in their very crowded Austin scene with their experimental psych indie rock. In the past year they have had the pleasure of opening for Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü) as well as garner some press from SXSW. They’re currently working on their first full length. Hear their current EP on their bandcamp here:
Also on the show is Springfield local indie rock band, The Locals. So far they have performed at a couple of our cover nights and was also a winner at Black Sheep Cafe’s battle of the bands. These guys are definitely off to a good start. You can see a video of one of their performances here: https://vimeo.com/116467979
Opening the show will be Rella, the lo-fi acoustic project of Clare Frachey, lead singer from local punk band SAP. She has one song recorded you can check out here:
