2 Years of Radon

25 Nov

The Christmas Explosion will soon be here!

christmasexpl-2013

And with every Christmas Explosion comes a full year of Radon Lounge! We’re up to 2 solid years now, and won’t let anybaby stop us from moving forward. The first Radon show was a Christmas Explosion, which started 6 years before. I hosted Christmas parties since 2005 where people walked in and said something to the effect that “Christmas exploded in here”, in case you’re wondering where the name came from.

I am fond of the Christmas Explosion as despite all the problems that come along with Christmas, I still want to hold on to the joy. I want this party to be something people can look forward to every year, especially if they don’t look forward to Christmas itself. I think we lose a lot of that childlike joy as we turn into adults, I just don’t think it always has to be that way.

This year we have two really great bands, plus a few fun activities. I wanted this year’s Explosion to feel more like a party than a show, and I’m sure people who have been to my pre-Radon Explosions will find it to be closer to what they once were. We will be sad that this will be the first Radon Christmas Explosion without the Tinseltown Marauders, but we have 2 really great bands, each traveling a long way to be here. We’re hoping people will appreciate them enough to help us pay for their time and travels.

So be getting your Christmas sweater ready and your potluck recipes, as we’re stocking the TNT higher than ever this year!

Go commit yourself to a a merry good time: facebook event page right here

Big Dumb Announcement

19 Nov

The Black Sheep Cafe, that music venue we talk a lot about that’s not The Radon Lounge, made an important announcement recently:

dumbrex

Although what you may know about the Black Sheep Cafe, plus the logo design, may lead you think think this will be a good place for drug deals, you would be dumb. We at the Radon Lounge are excited about this as it will be a different take on the record store approach that currently exists in Springfield, IL. There are a couple places other than thrift stores where you can buy vinyl records in this town, but this will be the first one to be entirely devoted to the local scene. And by scene, we’re talking about a cool ¬†and safe place for the kids to hang. A place where you can find records (vinyl, CD, cassette, 8track?) from local bands, bands who have toured Springfield, and classics to add to your collection.

There will be music available for just about every preference and we believe this place exists for the love of music, love of the community, and not just to make some money. Plus this should be viewed as a genuine effort to revitalize a neglected part of town. It will be located near 11th and South Grand, just around the corner from Black Sheep and will be opening sometime early next year.

Read more about it on their site BlackSheepSpringfield.com

Also don’t forget we have a show this Saturday, we’ll talk more about that tomorrow.

Shows and more Shows

11 Nov

We’re almost in the middle of November, the year will quickly be over, but not before we host 3 more awesome shows!

This Saturday, November 16th, we’re doing something a little different. We have 3 bands lined and a gyro bar from Ayappas international Cuisine and it’s all FREE!

filmloom

One of our favorite music finds of the summer will be playing this show, FILMLOOM. If you like Sufjan Stevens, Sigur Ros, or the Soil and the Sun, you’ll definitely like them.¬†Filmloom is a dynamic experimental/ folktronic outfit from the mitten state. They create music that is meant to be experienced; like a film. Their Debut EP: “L i m i t” was self-released through Bandcamp on may 24, 2013, but is now available on iTunes, Amazon mp3, and most of the large online music retailers.

MAYHEW THE TRAITOR from Champaign, IL will also be performing for the second time at the Radon Lounge with their special style of indie rock. Also performing will be JESSICA KNIGHT of Looming fame. Jessica will be playing acoustic and chances are you’ll hear some acoustic Looming.

Be sure to check out more about this show on the facebook event page!

After this, we have Karen Koenig performing on Nov 23rd and our big Christmas Explosion party on Dec 14th!

Check out those and other shows we are working on by clicking the shows page of this website.
