The Radon SXSW Experience

As promised here is my recap of my SXSW 2013 experience.

We only went out into the crazy for 3 days, and we were beat by the end of it. The first day started off better than anything possible with a free day show sponsored by Paste Magazine with The Lone Bellow, The Shout Out Louds, Dawes, and Foxygen. Later that night we got into an official showcase and got to see one of the best performances of the whole fest by Lucius.

On day 2, we hung out on the east side of the fest, where things are are cheap and a little bit rougher. We hung out at Papa Tino’s which has a $3 taco happy hour. $3 tacos may not sound cheap unless you’re at SXSW. During our stay there we saw Pearl & the Beard, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, and of course the fabulous and majestic Soil and the Sun. We happened to take a short break from Papa Tino’s, where I somehow wound up on stage with The Beards, rubbing beards with the best bearded Australians in the universe.

On our third and last day of SXSW we went to a day show with The Shout Out Louds (again), Diamond Rings, The Thermals, and The Polyphonic Spree. The Polyphonic Spree played Light and Day, and the place was crazy with excitement and energy. That evening we saw Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, Sally Ford and the Sound Outside, and capped off our experience with Lord Huron. Unfortunately Lord Huron suffered in the way many bands do as it took forever to setup and they had to cut some of their songs, a typical SXSW experience.

Besides the bands, SXSW is just full of life as I’ve mentioned before. So many cool shops, you’ll be walking down the street and find a yoga studio next to a vintage shop next to a tattoo parlor, next to a death metal pizza joint, and of course during sxsw they all have bands inside. There is just a mass of people everywhere you go, and everyone is dressed as weird as possible from a werewolf violinist, to a marching band uniform with matching house slippers.

Most importantly we feel more affirmed than ever for what we’re doing here at the Radon Lounge. We’ve seen what a place can be that has great music, so we’ll see how far we can take it here in Springfield.

This should be our last mention of SXSW this year, so let’s get back to the Radon Lounge, we’ve got lots of great announcements queued up, We’ve still got the better part of an exciting year ahead of us!

  1. Consider taking a supplement, as well, if you don’t think you’re getting enough through your
food. The chemicals are so small; they can literally fit
in between the cells of your skin. As the product makes the user want to eat less frequently.
